Oculo Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 17, 2026 · Controller: Gursel Pekgoz (individual developer)
Oculo writes a short story about the object you photograph. This policy explains what leaves your phone, why, and for how long. There is no account.
The short version
- Your story archive and the photos you save stay on your device.
- To name the object, and only if you allow it, a reduced copy of the photo (long side at most 1,280 px, without location or date details) is sent through our service to Anthropic's Claude. We do not store it. If you decline, or the service is unavailable, the object is recognized on your device (Apple Vision) and nothing is sent. You can change this anytime in Settings.
- To write a story we send our story service only: the object's name, your optional note, the tone, the language and, when you continue a series, short summaries of earlier episodes. This content is not stored on our server.
- When it opens, the app fetches the current list of story modes from our story service. This request carries no photo, text or device code; the list is kept on your device.
- If you are an Oculo Pro member and tap Read aloud, the story's text and language are also sent to our voice provider, ElevenLabs, to create a natural AI voice. The audio is saved on your device only. If you share a story as a narrated video, the video is created on your device from that audio and the story card; nothing more is uploaded, and the video goes only where you choose to share it.
- No ads, no tracking, no third-party analytics.
What we process and why
| Data | Where it goes | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Photos you save (camera or library) | Stays on your device | Show your story | Until you delete the story |
| A reduced copy of the photo (JPEG, long side at most 1,280 px, without location or date details), only if you allow it | Our recognition service (Cloudflare) and Anthropic (Claude) | Work out the object's name. If you decline, or the service is unavailable, Apple Vision recognizes the object on your device and nothing is sent | Not stored by us. Anthropic keeps API data for up to 30 days and, under its commercial terms, does not use it to train models |
| Object name, note, tone, language, earlier-episode summaries | Our story service (Cloudflare) and Anthropic (Claude) | Write the story | Not stored by us |
| Text for safety checks | TypeSafe (Jev) | Content safety | Not stored by us |
| Story text and language, only when a Pro member taps Read aloud or shares a narrated video | Our story service (Cloudflare), TypeSafe (Jev) for a safety check, and ElevenLabs | Create a natural AI voice for the story. The audio is saved on your device so the same story is not sent again | Not stored by us; ElevenLabs handles it under its own privacy policy |
| Random device code | Our story service | Limit daily free stories; not linked to your name, email or contacts | Daily counters deleted 2 days after last use |
| Signed subscription proof | Apple, our story service | Unlock Pro features | Verified per request, not stored |
| Stories and episodes | Stays on your device (local database) | Your archive | Until you delete them or the app |
Subscriptions
Oculo Pro is an auto-renewing subscription bought through Apple's App Store (StoreKit). Apple handles payment, renewal and restoring purchases; we never see your payment details, name or Apple ID. To unlock Pro features, the app sends Apple's signed proof of your subscription to our service, which checks it and does not store it. Subscription terms are in the EULA.
Where data is processed
Our service runs on Cloudflare. To deliver a request, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address for a moment; we do not use it to identify or track you. Anthropic (stories and photo recognition), TypeSafe (safety checks) and ElevenLabs (voice) may process the data they receive in other countries, including the United States, under their own terms.
Children
The app does not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
Your rights
There are no accounts; your data is on your device. Deleting a story or the app deletes the local data. You can turn photo recognition with AI off in Settings at any time. Under data-protection laws such as the GDPR and Turkey's KVKK you may ask what we hold, or ask for correction or deletion; because we keep no account data, most data is only on your device. Send questions and requests to the contact address at the end of this page.
Changes
If this policy changes, this page will be updated and the date above changed.
